  1. let me know how it performs! i was thinking about doing that myself but unsure of vista on a 1.6ghz atom with 1gb ram....
  2. You need to have only one primary partition and marked as active for your usb hard drive. that's it.(whatever ntfs or fat) after in your bios you have to change the boot drive to select your usb HDD once you have copied the install file in the root of the HDD. hhmm tried it again as per your instructions of 2 other machines, now im getting: NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl Alt Del to Restart any help would be greatly appreciated. turns out it was due to NTFS permissions, striped em all out and it worked

  5. hi guys, I have a 250GB 2.5" SATA drive in a USB enclosure. I really want to make it so I can boot off the usb drive and install it from that instead of the slow DVD. can anyone help me with this? thanks in advance!
  6. i have this same problem using a 250gb sata 2.5" in a usb enclosure. did you ever find a solution?!
  7. Hi all, I'm a systems admin for my company, I'm testing our new Altiris Deployment Solution for wide scale use next year. Altiris offers a customised PE 2.1 download on their site free of charge. This works perfectly and I have tested it on several machines... HOWEVER, it appears the new PE 2.0 and 2.1 requires 512mb of ram. A lot of our older machines only have 128 - 256 mb of ram and this causes a BSOD each time. My company is part of an eOpen VLK agreement that should entitle us to download WinPE files but I cant seem to find them... Does any one know where I can get either the Original or the Alitiris versions of Win PE 2004 & 2005? Thanks in advance!
  8. Just as i want to copy it, it disapears.... same problem here, at first i thought it just moved it some where but a search finds nothing...
  9. brilliant, thanks for the info i look forward to seeing this in vlite.
  10. hi guys, i was wondering if its possible to set a runonce command for a vista install, since i had this set in XP to run a batch file for an unattended office 2003 install, im trying to see if i can do the same for vista and office 2007. any help would be greatly appreciated
  11. brilliant thanks, i check the folder names match and it turns out i needed to remove the "install" folder from the runonce, since the batch file was on the drive root. ill test this when i get home tomorrow but im pretty sure it should work now, thanks a lot ill post again if i have problems
  12. everything checks out fine, the problem is when windows boots for the first time and runs the bat/cmd files for addon's the cmd for office says something like c:\install\batch_file.cmd is not a recognised command. or something along those lines, then if i got to c: and run the .cmd file it runs fine...?
  13. i have NO IDEA where this "%SystemRoot%\System32\nLite.cmd" comes from, its not in my runonce list in nlite i have "%systemdrive%\install\batch_file.cmd" in my saved customxp.ini file under run once, why the does this change? i didnt do that, i dont even know what the nlite.cmd file does or where it is. nlite seems to change my command to run my batch_file.cmd to nlite.cmd yeah that all points to the correct place...
  14. i get a message at the first start-up in a command window saying "cmd not a recognised command" or something like that... maybe if i renamed it to .bat? i have attached my cmd file and my .sif file (with serial removed) batch_file.cmd WINNT.SIF
  15. ok ive tested it twice now im having problems, the folder "install" and its contents are being copied to C:\ but the cmd doesnt seem to be running the installer, office is not installed when i test it on virtual pc...
