Getting 3rd Party NIC to Load

Recommended Posts

I am trying to get a Dell GX260 to pull a flat/clean/basic xp sp1 image. I downloaded the drivers, extracted the contents, copied the contents into the i386 and $OEM$\$1\drivers\network. Here is my ristndrd.sif (template folder) configuration:

[data]
floppyless = "1"
msdosinitiated = "1"
OriSrc = "\\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%"
OriTyp = "4"
LocalSourceOnCD = 1
DisableAdminAccountOnDomainJoin = 1

[SetupData]
OsLoadOptions = "/noguiboot /fastdetect"
SetupSourceDevice = "\Device\LanmanRedirector\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%"

[Unattended]
OemPreinstall = yes
OemPnpDriversPath = "drivers\network"
FileSystem = LeaveAlone
ExtendOEMPartition = 0
TargetPath = \WINDOWS
OemSkipEula = yes
InstallFilesPath = "\\%SERVERNAME%\RemInst\%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%"
LegacyNIC = 1

[UserData]
FullName = "%USERFIRSTNAME% %USERLASTNAME%"
OrgName = "%ORGNAME%"
ComputerName = %MACHINENAME%

[GuiUnattended]
OemSkipWelcome = 1
OemSkipRegional = 1
TimeZone = %TIMEZONE%
AdminPassword = "*"

[Display]
BitsPerPel = 16
XResolution = 800
YResolution = 600
VRefresh = 60

[Networking]

[NetServices]
MS_Server=params.MS_PSched

[Identification]
JoinDomain = %MACHINEDOMAIN%
DoOldStyleDomainJoin = Yes

[RemoteInstall]
Repartition = Yes
UseWholeDisk = Yes

[OSChooser]
Description = "Windows Professional"
Help = "This will install Windows Professional in a standard configuration."
LaunchFile = "%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.com"
ImageType = "Flat"

Also, is there a difference between the ristndrd.sif in the i386 and the templates folder? Do they need to match each other?

From my experience (or lack of :} ), the RIS uses the SIF file located in your I386/templates folder. You can create additional SIF files to create different versions of your Windows XP install (so you don't have to tamper with the original).

I was able to do a RIS on a Dell GX270 and GX280 with no issues. You sure you got the right drivers? The files you extracted should consist of INF, SYS, and CAT files. You will also need to copy the SYS and INF files to the I386 directory.

Make the Flat Image use nlite to integrate the drivers into the "Flat Image" always worked for me. Your also missing

[unattended]

DriverSigningPolicy = Ignore

also use the sif in the templates folder. At this point trial and error or google for one of those great add nic to ris guides :thumbup
