I put a dvd in my GF computer. On dvd playback the dvd studders and is unwatchable. She has xp and has 300+ of ram. I have tried a few different players. Should I take them out a reinstall them a different way? I forgot which IDE cable they are on.

I know this is probably quite trivial, but have you tried cleaning the DVD players and/or the DVDs you're trying to play? What are you using to play them with? Possibly a driver issue?

Does the disc skip in other players? If yes, clean the disc or get a another one.

What software are you using to watch dvds? 300MB of ram implies an older machine, what CPU does it have?

Intel celeron about 1.2 processor.

DVD play fine on my computer, amd 1400+

I know both are a few years old and for the most part suits our needs. This dvd playback thing has me stumped.

did you check that UDMA is enabled for that drive? also, if you installed a codec package uninstall that and the dvd software you are playing the dvd with, reboot and reinstall just the dvd software.

Does this happen for cd's as well or just dvd's?
