Windows Server 2003 External Hard Disk

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have installed windows 2003 server enterprise edition, however, when i plug my external harddrive in via USB2 it is listed under safely remove hardware but not in 'my computer' as a hardrive. There is nothing wrong with my external disk drive, i tested it on another computer. Does anyone know of a solution?

Thanks in advanced,

Matt

Jondercik is right. Win2003 does not automatically assign drive letters to external drives like WinXP does. You will have to fire up Disk Manager and assign a letter to it. After that, each time you plug that drive into the Win2003 box it'll get that same drive letter.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MountMgr]

"NoAutoMount"=dword:00000000

copy that to a text file and save as a reg file, also works for any removable device like USB memory sticks/Camera's etc
