Trouble with AVI handler (?)

Featured Replies

Hey all, I've found that when I use NLite (since version ~0.9 when I started using it) that when I right-click on any AVI file, the screen goes blank for a moment (as if I were changing resolutions or something). I'm guessing this has something to do with an aspect of the AVI shell handler that I've modified or something? It's incredibly frustrating as I work a lot with video files and hate that there's the delay every time I want to go to "Properties" or something similar.

I'm using an Nvidia 7600GT with the latest Nvidia drivers.

Any info would be appreciated! Much thanks!

Come on guys... anyone? Please? I'll donate $5 if I get this resolved!

1) Open Start, Run; then do any of steps 2-5 :)

2) To remove image preview, type and hit enter

regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

3) To readd image preview, type and hit enter

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

4) To remove media preview, type and hit enter

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

5) To readd media preview, type and hit enter

regsvr32 shmedia.dll

this is the one you want..

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

This has nothing to do with nlite but with your display driver. Try uninstalling it, download latest official version and reinstall it after restart.

Also test it before playing with setting in the desktop panel if you do some display, refresh or whatever settings.

Thanks Bledd, that's really good to know. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.

Nuhi, I realize now I think this issue actually started when I bought a new CRT monitor, which was right around the time I started using NLite, so I'm sure you're right about it not being NLite related.

I do have the latest NVidia drivers (93.71). I've used several different resolutions/refresh rates since I bought this monitor though and they all have the same problem.

*Update* I've found as long as I'm *in* the NVidia control panel properties (with the little side panel), it doesn't do it. Of course that only helps so long as I keep that window open -_-

Another update... the same thing happens when I use a shortcut on the selected AVI file like "Ctrl-C".

Again, it's *only* AVI files. Not RMV/MOV/FLV/MP4/VOB files.
