"you do not have modifype.exe"

Hello all,

Under the gun here. I'm attempting to use HFSLIP for a SATA w/no floppy drive install for the first time with Windows XP. I have also added in SP2. I've tried to read everything about it but come up with this error

"YOU DO NOT HAVE MODIFYPE.EXE"

and the program ends.

I searched the forums and found nothing that was relatable to my problem. If you need further information, please let me know. I'll be watching this space.

hi sawzall! just a backgrounder for modifype from: http://hfslip.org/advanced.html

Most of these features require a file called modifyPE.exe. Download the modpe081.zip package and extract modifyPE.exe into the HFTOOLS folder.

1. HFSVCPACK - REG, INF and CMD files

2. FIX - Replace existing files in the source

3. HFEXPERT - Codecs, WIN files, replace apps & inject hives

4. FDVFILES - Remove Internet Explorer from Windows 2000

5. HFCLEANUP - Reduce your source

Thank you both for your help. I searched the web for modifype.exe and found the file, but did not know where to put it. I never looked on TommyP's page under Advanced because I never thought of myself as advanced.

It would be helpful if the 'Integrating SATA and RAID drivers with HFSLIP' topic installation instructions had a couple of lines of the needed install of HFSLIP.

It's actually only needed if you are using the HFEXPERT folders \WIN, \APPREPLACEMENT or \CODECS.

However, I don't know if you're aware, but it also appears to be needed if you have OPUC4.CAB in HFCABS folder. In this case there would be no pre-checks and hence a problem!

hi Yzöwl! TC already made mention of this:

The site was updated with a new page titled "Important things to know -- please read!" with additional info on IE7, WMP11 and OPUC4 slipstreaming.

Office Update -- OPUC4.CAB

The updated program file for the Office Update engine has a bad header, causing Windows setup to complain when it's being copied into a system folder. HFSLIP can work around this if you put modifyPE.exe from modpe081.zip in the HFTOOLS folder.

Surely though, especially with the frequency at which this script is updated, the header should be modifype'd as a default and therefore the check done automatically in the script.

It sounds at present as if you will get it broken by default if you do not read the web site or script and that doesn't seem to be the most professional way to do it.

I disagree with that. What's the point of instructions if they are to be ignored?

I could block the handling of opuc.dll if modifype.exe isn't present, but HFSLIP would have to be updated again if Microsoft fix it and I'd be ignoring users who fix it themselves.

No-ones ignoring the instructions, just missing them. The HFSLIP section of MSFN should be mirroring important instructions, not all instructions obviously, but important ones should not be limited to offsite.

How many people, including that cab file want it broken?

If, as I guess, the answer is not the majority, then the script should cater for that scenario.

My suggestion would be if the cab exists and modifype doesn't echo the message.

HFSLIP as I said is constantly updated, it's not as if you would need to go back to the drawing board with major recoding when and if Microsoft fix it. It would probably take as much work to re-edit the web page instructions as it would the script.
