Cannot slipstream KB885836 and kb917734 in WinXP sp2

hi,

first, i have integrated sp2 manually through "D:\sp2\i386\update.exe -s:D:\" command; then I have slipstreamed everything possible except dx9 extras.

To do that I have used HFSLIP 1.1.0, and all hotfixes&updates&cabs used have been downloaded at the date of Nov. 23, 2006.

However, windowsxp-KB885836-x86-ENU.exe and windowsmedia10-kb917734-x86-ENU.exe have been not slipstreamed.

any idea on how to do it?

Hi 3398495

The problem with KB885836 is curious. Which program are you using to verify if hotfixes were slipstreamed? Search in the HFSLPxxx.INF files in the SOURCESS folder for one that contains the text 885836, and see if the file mswrd6.wp_ has been renewed.

There's something fishy about the KB917734 update. When slipstreaming WMP11 (not possible yet with the public builds), Windows Update also wants it to be installed even though it doesn't apply to WMP11. This hotfix namely updates wmp.dll to version 10.0.0.4036 (dated April 29, 2006) while WMP11 contains wmp.dll version 11.0.5721.5145 (dated October 18, 2006). I'll see if I can work around this somehow.

hi,

thanks for your prompt replies,

unfortunately I have already deleted sourcess directory, but i'm planning to repeat the complete test, so I can revert you at the soonest. I could only check the presence of the two files (and they were both there) in hfslip.log.

I'm also planning to check enbel's suggestions.

Additionally, I miss to tell you that I have performed the setup with the slipstreamed CD by using the repair option on an existing XPSP2 1st partition already inclusive of all same hotfixes, this just to avoid the annoying problem of microsoft windows xp activation: by the way, have you any other idea on how to overcome this activation problem?

At the end of setup I made the check on windows update site.

Also, i used nlite last version to integrate nvidia raid 0+1 drivers.

Also, i made another test by doing a fresh xp installation on a logic partition by using a cd prepared in the same way but in italian language: in this case i had no problem at all and i verified through windows update site a full incorporation of all files.

thank you again

hi,

what file do i have to look for in \sourcess\i386 directory?

anyway i confirm that occurrencies of "885836" reported in my previous reply have been found in \sourcess\i386 directory, and also that no occurrencies of "885836" are present in \source\i386.

yes,

mswrd6.wp_ is there!

I found it also in \source\i386! but they are different in date as follows:

- \source\i386: aug 3,2004

- \sourcess\i386: nov 11, 2006

it implies that hfslip has modified it, isn't it?, but not in the right way!
