This is what seems to be missing from your list:

826939, DirectX OPK, 832894, and 826939 is in the list.... the rest are probably superceded by newer updates. 817778 is a "Recommended" update.

The files shown in the screenshot matches the list on the first page of this thread.

So, what would the final list look like?
The final list is in the first page of the thread. No critical updates are shown on Windows Update.

Hey aaron.. Im running into major problems with my slipsteam disc and i was using the sp1... but somewhere i have seemed to loose the sp1 update install... shucks huh.. well.. i do have the sp1a... now.. i have heard different things.. if i slipstream the sp1a into my xp cd.... will i have any problems installing msjava.... and where should i install it at... i am using the repacked file that i made.. (u know.. by unpacking the older version of msjava that don't update just installs... and replacing the files with the most current msjava files then repacking...ect...) now.. if i won't have any problems installing the msjava on sp1a... at which point should i install it at?

if you could help me out i would be greatefull

hey aaron... i thought you had to have the .cat files for all the hotfixes you are using install under [productcatalogstoinstall]..... besides just the updat rollup.. and from the snap of your update dir above i see that the only cat file you are using is the one for the update roll up...

so... am i wasting time having the other cat files being installed...

what would be the best thing to do?

Newbie - looks good, give it a go in VMware Workstation or Virtual PC, they're excellent for testing out installations on.

affidavit - it was pure luck that the cat files wasn't needed at all for an XP installation. My method doesn't work for Win2k or Win2003 - probably because I didn't specify cat files.

There's no cat files in my snapshot, and the Update Rollup isn't slipstreamed.

Did you ever wake up the next day and wonder WHAT you were doing?

I have this hotfixes.cmd file. I have no idea where I found it. I have only about 6 of the files listed. I don't know what to do with it!

That seems quite old, and /M doesn't do anything either.

If you really want to know what updates you need then install Windows XP SP1 and visit Windows Update. Write down all the critical update KB article numbers (which I'm very certain matches the list in this thread), and the recommended updates which you might optionally want. (Not everyone needs the Recommeded updates)

I just tested my install... under MS Virtual PC and i am having a problem with these too... for some reason they both still show up in the windows update page... but.. they are both on the qfecheck, add remove progrograms... and if memory serves me correctly, the catfile dir....

If KB826942 and KB822603 doesn't work, it may be something to do with the virtual software not being able to support wireless/USB. But should work fine on a real system.

Move Q832483.exe to somewhere like \$OEM$\$1\hotfixes\ and use this in the batch file:

start /wait %systemdrive%\hotfixes\ENU_Q832483_MDAC_X86.EXE /C:"dahotfix.exe /q /n" /q

UnattendMode=ProvideDefault is preventing [Components] and other various settings in winnt.sif (such as timezone) from taking effect. I don't know why.

There are three updates that cannot be processed by svcpack.inf (or uses a different command syntax) at the time of writing up this guide:

Q832483 - Buffer overrun in an MDAC function could allow code execution

Q817787 - Flaw in Windows Media Player Skins Downloading Could Allow Code Execution (Only needed for WMP8)

Q817778 - Advanced Networking Pack

cat files are Security Catalog Files that carry a digital signature. If an invalid cat file is found, it will not install the software.

Yet another problem.

I need to get this hotfix but I cannot find one for XP pro, only 2000.
