ChocoBoy
Hi...Win XP detects my new Plextor 24x (IDE) writer as a cd-rom drive...Because of this I can't get the built-in cd-writing to work.Does anybody have some help or tricks to get to work....PS. It's installed as slave on the 2nd controller....
XPerties
2 things, It should be a master and check your bios to see if its detecting it as a plextor first. -XPerties
ChocoBoy
I've changed it to master, nothing happened. Still a cd-rom drive...In the bios it detects as some kind of gibberish(random characters), but during boot it displays as a plextor...
XPerties
1.Is this a new install of XP? 2. If so was it a upgrade?3. If not is this a new install of the plextor?Try going into the device manager and uninstalling it, then reboot and let it reinstall it again. Theres also a update for burners on winupdates.com. Have you got that?-XPerties
ChocoBoy
I've updated the firmware to 1.03 and now it shows as a plextor in bios, but still as cd-rom in windows.I made a clean windows install back when it was released and I justed popped the plextor in today... XPerties
holly corn puffs batman.......lol......Its suppose to say that. Thats fine. As long as it says its a plextor in the device manager your fine. Mines the same and so is a million others out there. Dam all this work. Try sticking a disk in and explore your computer and drop and drag a small file to your plextore drive. It will burn:WTF?: :WTF?: -XPerties
Aaron
Its normal for a CD-R Device to be called a CD Drive in My Computer lol
Aaron
If it doesn't burn, then use an alternative cd burning proggy, you'll get more features that way anyway.Nero, Easy CD Creator, CD-Mate, NTI CD Maker(btw everybody, CD-Mate looks good with what it can do: http://www.cd-mate.com)
ChocoBoy
It still doesn't want to burn. I tried 3 different discs, so I guess that isn't the problem.http://chocoboy.pointclark.net/img/home/plextor3.jpgAdmin edit:[/color:96a8f4f879] Its ok to use http:// as long as Automatically Parse URLs is unchecked when you make a new post/reply. LS_Dragons
Try D/Ling Nero (free trial) and when you install, you will find out whether the plextor is being recognized properly. And - AaronXP is right - you will be far happier with a REAL burning app than the weak sh*t built into XP. /rantTo All - can someone explain to me why M$ is constantly trying to add functions (cd burning, media player, etc) but they can never get their heads out long enough to do it right? /end of rantLS
FthrJACK
i dont get what you are trying to do with that image in your last post chocoboy.. open my computer, then click and drag a file from another location.. say the desktop.. and drop it onto your CD drive. a ballon will pop up from the tray telling you there are new items in the "to burn" que or something like that, click the ballon and follow onscreen promtps, the built in burner (made by Roxio) is a bit lame, takes ages too, try nero.
