I want the best I can get for the rig Ive got... but my options seem somewhat limited, and I think Ive missed the boat on the x2 4800... Ive got a decent rig for ocing too....165, 170, 180 or x2 4400...Any advice???
ripken204 Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 well for ocing an opty 170 is perfect, you have that extra multiplier which makes everything eazier, and you should be able to get ~2.7ghz with it.

drscouse Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 thanks for your advice...Opterons are considered to be of "superior" quality compared to their x2 counterparts...???Could you assume therefore that in theory they should be equally good for overclocking, although I am aware it can be pot luck if you happen to get one that is...I cant help but wonder if I can hang out for a week or two when the 180's (2.4ghz) are available here that hitting 2.8, and maybe even 3ghz maybe possible....I have my eye on either the x2 4800 which are gedtting more rare by the hour, but know where I can get one, or the Opty 180, which on paper they are identical cpus, but you cant help but think the Opty may be made of sturner stuff!!! They are almost the same in price too... which would you go for...???
drscouse Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 Went for a 165 CCBBE 0615EPMWMeant to be a good stepping with many reports of 3ghz, so my 2.8 should be reachable!!
ripken204 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 good choice, by looking at some other ppls cpu's, urs should be able to hit ~2.8 with 1.4-5v on air.just remember to use a divider on ur ram
