which option is responsible for displaying tooltips over icons

Featured Replies

I mean when I mouse over given icon. Which option in nLite (registry entry) is responsible for displaying them? Ask because I lost them (they don't display ATM :() and I'm pretty sure that I've had/seen them right after nLited OS install. Now they're suddenly gone - how to restore them?

In the meantime I used MS TweakUI for XP (2.10) and changed a few options there (don't remember which ones now). I suspect this could be the culprit. So bonus Q is: which option in TweakUI is responsible for it as well?

wooops...

not the good tweak, r3incarnat0r is right

;Disable Baloon Tips
;(00000000 = disabled, 00000001 = enabled)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

nLite has this tweak to disable tooltips on icon under mouse pointer:

Perfomance > Disable Info Tips on Files and Folders

You can revert it with this REG file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"FolderContentsInfoTip"=dword:00000001
"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000001

I think it can be also set somewhere in the Folder Options.

r3incarnat0r (and others): I have both set to 0 and still, sometimes tooltips over icons in tray and quick launch bar appear on mouse over, sometimes (more frequently) they do not (like now). Sometimes they appear but lower part of tooltips is covered by Windows taskbar. So it must be some other setting. I'll stress that I'm talking ONLY about tooltips in 2 areas: system tray and quick launch bar. I never see them in other places and don't want to see them elsewhere besides these 2 spots. But I do want to see them in tray/QLB - and it's very intermittent ATM.

Camarade_Tux, here are 2 example screenshots of it "in action". Please note that most of the time I CAN'T see these tooltips (even partially occluded) AT ALL. I haven't worked out yet on what depends whether they appear or not. They might appeatr like in screens attached, and 1 minute later they don't appear at all (on mouse over of course).
