Description only mentions "antivirus and other apps"? Any specific examples which app depend on it and what gets broken if FSFM is not installed and running? Also, which file(s) are behind it (names)? I'd check if they are running at all on my system now (I guess it's some .sys or .dll).

Do you have any good/bad experiences with removing it?

File System Manager are something new in windows.

They appeared with a patch for XP SP1 and are in SP2.

Nothing uses them at the moment.

But imho this is something that should not be removed (except for kiosks maybe) : it would be just like removing WPA2, PCI-E, SATA, PPPoE, DVD and stick to WEP, PCI, PATA, Dial-Up, CD.

ATM if a driver is buggy, as it *necessarily* runs in system space (just like windows itself), whenever it bugs, the whole system freezes. Moreover, there also are several other avantages on the performance side and ease-of-developpment.

nLite 1.4.1 mentions this is used by antivirus programs. Any truth to this presently?
