kobby Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I use both IE and Firefox browsers on my laptop. Ever since I updatedWin XP from SP 1 to SP2 I have been receiving the error message belowin the left column of my Firefox screen whenever I try to open a webpage:"Your internet connection is experiencing problems or your networkadministrator has blocked Gmail chat. Learn more"I also don't get images any longer. I only see blank spaces where theimages should be. Initially I thought it was from my networkadministrator (I am on a network at the office) but realised that thesame thing happens even at home where I switch my laptop to a dial-upISP. I am not using Gmail Chat. A Gmail forum user offered the following answer:"Microsoft made many changes to security with SP2. eg SP2 turns on theWindows Firewall by default, and changes the default settings for whichports are blocked etc. It's generally tighter than before.I don't know how Gmail chat uses ports etc, but I guess this is what ishappening here." The above hardly solves the problem! Can anyone offer any assistance to really solve the problem???
bledd Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 ask your network admin, say you want gmail chat when not in the officeits not SP2
Tasslehoff Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Are you using any other firewall/security software other than the windows firewall. Any ad blockers running?
kobby Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 I am not aware of any other ad blockers on my HD apart from what win XP/SP2 provides. I also use Firefox alongside IE. I don't know if that is causing any conflict.
