MonkeyMan1979 Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Is there a way to slipstream or integrate Virtual Machine Additions into a Windows 2000 Professional installation?
Tomcat76 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Well... HFSLIP doesn't process VMWare additions specifically, but I made a silent/switchless installer for the VMWare tools (download) which can be installed at T-13; it's based on the installer by RogueSpear. This file should be placed in HFSVCPACK.
tain Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 What exactly do you mean by "Virtual Machine Additions"?
MonkeyMan1979 Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 (edited) I have been using Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004 to test out my slipstreamed Windows 2000 installation. I am constantly tweaking it and having to re-install in Virtual PC. Every time I install from a new iso image, I have to manually re-install virtual machine additions as well. This is a hastle and I would like to know how to slipstream or integrate it into the Windows 2000 install. There must be a way to do this because you can use WinRar to extract the contents of the virtual machines additions ISO that you mount to your virtual cd-rom. Would it be possible to slipstream this like a hotfix, or could you make a silent installer for it? Edited October 22, 2006 by MonkeyMan1979

What I was really looking for is info for slipstreaming or integrating "virtual machine additions" from Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004. If you are willing to experiment with it to try and figure this out, you can download it for free here.
MonkeyMan1979 Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 What exactly do you mean by "Virtual Machine Additions"?Virtual Machine Additions is a program that you install on the guest operating system using Microsoft's Virtual PC. After you install the OS on VPC you need to install VMAs in order to conveniently switch back and forth between the guest and host OS's. You also need it to share files between them. To install VMAs you need to click the Action menu and select "Install or Update Virtual Machine Additions." It then loads an ISO to your virtual cd-rom drive and you install it from there. You can also extract the contents of that ISO using a program like WinRar. Microsoft now offers Virtual PC for free so you can download and experiment with it by getting it (here).
tain Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Ah, OK. So it is the equivalent to the VMWareTools that Tomcat76 mentioned.I am not familiar with that software, but would expect to find something like that over here . However, a quick search wasn't fruitful. You may want to consider putting in a request in that forum or searching the RyanVM forums.
Tomcat76 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 It's also in an ISO and it also resides in the program folder. I'll make a silent switchless and will test it out.
Tomcat76 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Got a working one. Need to see where I can upload it...
MonkeyMan1979 Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 Got a working one. Need to see where I can upload it...Thanks for the help Tomcat76! Let me know where I can download it as soon as you find a host.
Tomcat76 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 (edited) VPCAdditions.zip (link changed) Edited October 23, 2006 by Tomcat76
MonkeyMan1979 Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 VPCAdditions.zip This is exactly what I was looking for. I tested it out and it works great. Thanks again Tomcat76!
tain Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Did this also get posted in the application addons forum?
