grant Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 This is one I can never work out.If I want to remove a component the Windows Components Wizard Appears. This says "To add or remove a component, click the checkbox. I'm looking at this and , for example, I want to remove Windows Messenger. The box is blank. If I tick this, will it be removed or added? Now, a couple of items are ticked which are already installed - Windows Media Player, etc. Other already installed programmes are not ticked. So if I tick items, will they be removed with the already ticked items, or do I need to untick ticked items to prevent removal?A nightmare.Thank you for anu advice.Grant.
allen2 Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 If the box is blank, it mean that component isn't installed (for the add/Remove component wizard). But some component cannot be removed just like this.
JRosenfeld Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Checked items are ones are installed. Unchecking them will uninstall them.Unchecked items are ones not installed. Checking them will install them.If some component is not working, but is marked as checked, uncheck it to uninstall it, then go back and check it to install it again.
crown711 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 a small program (free) called add remove pro will help .
Takeshi Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Look hard at the description underneath the item. Don't be fooled. For OE, WMP, Windows Messenger, it only adds or removes access from the Start menu. Steps to remove Messenger for real can be found all over the internet.
