Add/Remove Windows Components

Featured Replies

This is one I can never work out.

If I want to remove a component the Windows Components Wizard Appears. This says "To add or remove a component, click the checkbox.

I'm looking at this and , for example, I want to remove Windows Messenger. The box is blank. If I tick this, will it be removed or added?

Now, a couple of items are ticked which are already installed - Windows Media Player, etc. Other already installed programmes are not ticked. So if I tick items, will they be removed with the already ticked items, or do I need to untick ticked items to prevent removal?

A nightmare.

Thank you for anu advice.

Grant.

If the box is blank, it mean that component isn't installed (for the add/Remove component wizard). But some component cannot be removed just like this.

Checked items are ones are installed. Unchecking them will uninstall them.

Unchecked items are ones not installed. Checking them will install them.

If some component is not working, but is marked as checked, uncheck it to uninstall it, then go back and check it to install it again.

Look hard at the description underneath the item. Don't be fooled.

For OE, WMP, Windows Messenger, it only adds or removes access from the Start menu. Steps to remove Messenger for real can be found all over the internet.
