fdv Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 (edited) Edit: removed link until some serious issues are fixed! It worked for me but there are very obviously problems and it would be irresponsible to let more folks download and just run it.--- original post ---I've had this little INF for a long while. I mainly used to use it on people's XP systems when they downgraded from 2000 to XP. It has a bunch of convenient tweaks in it and I thought I'd might as well post it so others can benefit.Sure, the stuff is no big deal, but for example, Google how to remove the search dog and you get 20,000 pages of instructions on Registry Tweaks. All I wanted was an INF, not adding DWORDs... anyway, that's just one example. It also works on Windows 2003. It removes search dog, ZIP folders, MyDocuments, Web Publishing Wizard, the default obsolete version of MS Passport, integrated CD Burning, resets graphical and media file extensions, and a few more things -- be sure to read comments in the INF). This is an aggregation and maybe 50% of it is original work of mine, the rest I cobbled from various places on the 'Net. Edited September 29, 2006 by fdv
r3incarnat0r Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 (edited) Thanks man, I like the CLSID's info. Just a note: To remove the Shared Folders, maybe its key should be deleted from My Computer's NameSpace key instead of adding policy tweak (NoSharedDocuments).[delreg]HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders\{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}"Edit: Oh, sorry, it's for icons removal from My Computer only. Anyway, it could be removed together with HKCR\CLSID* keys...Edit2: Backslashes fixed. Edited September 29, 2006 by r3incarnat0r
maxXPsoft Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 A NOTE: anyone should certainly look it over before applying in FULLWas unable to open .chm file's after thatNo big thing for me, sys restore fixed it.
fdv Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 maxXPsoft sorry about that, if you know of a fix, let me know. That was unintentional. I'll dig into this and see if I can't prevent that from happening.
MGadAllah Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 just a thing...I've right clicked it and hit install, things missed up, and internet explorer did not even started, and when I keep trying opening it I found it opened many windows and close it at once.I really do not know what happened but this is what I did.also when I point to all programs in start menue, nothing appeared. Thanks
Yzöwl Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 (edited) There are several REG_DWORD values given in REG_BINARY format, there are tweaks which are either 'not recommended' or 'do not work' in Windows XP and even tweaks which require 3rd party files to work! Not wishing to be completely negative, there is some good stuff in there too, but as already suggested, the file needs very careful user editing! Edited September 28, 2006 by Yzöwl
fdv Posted September 29, 2006 Author Posted September 29, 2006 ACK!I'd better pull it before anyone does any more damage... Sorry folks
