Mike500 Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 No, that's not possible via [Components]. See the file "ref.chm" from the deployment tools package.
Marztabator Posted August 22, 2003 Author Posted August 22, 2003 Ok, but just remember that they didn't list 'msmsgs' in that section, yet that didn't mean Windows Messenger was non-removable...
Marztabator Posted August 30, 2003 Author Posted August 30, 2003 Hmmm, I discovered recently that the following command line only works if you have WMP9 installed:RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,UninstallIt seems to do nothing whatsoever with WMP8 installed.
Marztabator Posted August 31, 2003 Author Posted August 31, 2003 Cripes, could this really be a 100% non-removable part of XP? Looks like M$ got us this time.Wonder if 2000/XP-lite will be able to remove it?
DaveXP Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 if you know how you can remove everything but M$ hate people doing it so they dont tell you how to do it.
Bachus Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 Then please enlighten us in getting rid of WMP8...
DaveXP Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 well waht you could do is remove the setup files from the I386 dir but i would not recommended it because it would ask for them but if you could work out which file windows setup uses to list which files needed to be copyed and then change that file to remove windows media player from the list and then remove windows media player setup files form the I386 directory on the Cd that would work.
Aaron Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Its very difficult to remove hard-codened applications such as WMP8 and IE6 from WindowsXP. LitePC is the only company who claims they can do it. They were a sucess with Windows98, but Windows2000 and XP has proven to be very difficult to do, but they're getting there!
