MDGx
This issue is explained in detail, and how to fix it step-by-step, under the "KNOWN BUGS + FIXES" section of READ1ST.TXT:http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXTBUG:After installing 98SE2ME option 1 or option 2 which replaces USER.EXE amongother WinME system files [see "* Option 2:" under "98SE2ME.PIF COMPLETE GUIDE"chapter further above]on portable (laptops + notebooks) computers with powersaving features turned on you may experience power saving, standby, suspend, restart in MS-DOS mode and/or shutdown errors, because:- WinME USER.EXE does NOT natively support "Restart in MS-DOS mode".- All USER.EXE versions have to call functions in VPOWERD.VXD for shutdownand standby, and WinME VPOWERD.VXD is very different from the Win98 SE one.FIX:If you experience such errors while using patched WinME USER.EXE 4.90.3001installed by 98SE2ME option 1 + option 2, replace WinME USER32.DLL + USER.EXE4.90.3001 with patched Win98 SE USER32.DLL + USER.EXE 4.10.2231:http://support.microsoft.com/?id=291362Direct download [469 KB]:http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/CPatch/msupdate/.../291362usa8.exeor (re)install Gape's Win98 SE Service Pack 2 (SP2):http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.htmlHope this helps.FYI:From now on please post all 98SE2ME related issues in the 98SE2ME dedicated forum:http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349That's the one I check frequently in order to be able to answer questions/requests/etc.Creating a new topic with the title 98SE2ME will only confuse everybody. erpdude8
waywyrd, does your computer use the older APM power management standard or the ACPI (advanced configuration & power interface) standard for power management?Check in Device Manager, expand the System Devices section and see if ACPI appears on there. You can also check the Power Management control panel properties.
