Trying the XP Corp Thing.

Greets to all and shouts to your forum. I have seen a few and this one rules. Hope you have room for the Fat Man.

I read the posts about this corp files thing and tried it out (something-to-do). I was already running the retail english na, XP Pro, full version. I activated it long ago.

I took my retail CD (XP Pro for Win95 or PCs without an OS), copied it to my HD, substituted the corpfiles into the I386 folder, and burned it all with nero. Did a few reboots and shutdowns to start fresh.

Got XP up and slipped the corp CD into the drive. It took a minute but it auto started just fine. I selected the upgrade option and all went well. After installation I checked the activation function and a nice message that it was already activated came up. Okay. That worked but I got to thinking (Yes - It Hurt)that I had done this over an activated OS. Maybe it was a screwy thing to do. Thought I would try the clean install option and see what happened.

Reformatted the HD with my HD utility. Changed the BIOS to boot from C-ROM,A,C. Well, the corp CD did not boot. So I booted with a Win98 boot disk wit CD-ROM Support. Ran the winnt.exe and held on. Eventually the setup got to a point where a message said that this version of windows would only run in windows mode (something like that). Okay, So I installed Win98SE OEM.

With Win98SE installed I threw in a few drivers for hardware and ran the corp cd upgrade. Ha, a few errors about files not found (my CD-ROM was dirty or just a CDR thing) and clicked through with the installation. Activation check and a message that it was already activated (something like that). Good to go.

Still playing. Thought I would make the CD bootable, but I know nothing specific about that. So, I am researching the net for information. Found some stuff that looks good and will try it later. Onc I get that working I plan on trashing everything and move-on to something else. Got any ideas? I get real bored and like to get into projects. Your forum helped me pass a cool 24 hours.

Thanks for everything.

AaronXP

Thanks for the link, the hard work, and the help.

That really is a lot of work you did.

I saved it and edited it for tomorrow sometime.

Mind if I post it on my site in the near future?

Thanks again.

This is a follow-up to my original thread. I got around to making the CD bootable according to AaronXP's excellent tutorial. I would recommend the tutorial to anyone using NERO.

Needless to say the process was a success. I am extremely happy with the results. Thanks to all of you that contributed to the thread. Special thanks to Xperties for having me and not kicking me.

My next project will be to create a universal edition that supports multiple languages. As in the original post I have researched the web and have found something to get me started.

One of these days I hope to get back to updating my domain:D
