Windows XP Home SP2 Boot Problem

Hello, and thank you in advance for any help/advice you can give me. I have a PC with an ASUS K8V Deluxe MOBO w/ the newest BIOS chip from ASUS (1011). The computer has an Athlon 64 3200, 1GB 400 Mhz Samsung DDR, let me know if you need to know anything else about the hardware. The computer works flawlessly, and I am very happy with it.

I currently have XP Home SP1 on the system, and I have tried several times to download and install the SP2 (actually, I have had no problem downloading or installing it), but after it is installed and I reboot the computer, the computer fails to boot into Windows. I see the Windows XP Home logo with the task bar on the bottom, but when it should boot into Windows and see the mouse cursor, it fails to boot and starts all over again. Each time I have tried this, I was forced to reboot into SAFE mode and use the SYSTEM RESTORE option. Once it is saved to the point prior to the SP2 download, the computer runs like a champ again.

I called Microsoft, and now I have an SP2 CD on the way to me. Hopefully this will fix it, but does anyone have an idea as to what is going on?

Thank you, Stephen

One more bit of information: When the computer fails to boot, I see a blue error screen, but it flashes so fast I have no idea what it says. I have tried to hit the Pause/Break button, but it won't stop to let me see what it says.

The correct way to uninstall SP2 is to uninstall it rather than using SR.

The SP2 CD won't magically cure your problem. The file is the same as the one you download.

It's possible that installing SP2 somehow causes problems with drivers, as mentioned. You should check the Asus website to see if there're updated drivers for XP SP2.
