new mobile phone problem

hi there

i`m new to this forum so sorry if i`ve posted this query in the wrong forum.

i recently bought a new mobile and when i connect to my laptop via usb i get the message that a usb device is unrecognised or malfunctioning. the phone charges fine via usb.

i run xp home service pack 2

any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the phone model and manufacter, depending on the manufactuer, it will tell you how to install and when connect the phone. Some Motorola phones require that you install the software on the computer then have the phone on and usually have the USB cord connected to the phone, then connect it to the USB on the computer. The software may have you create profile to store the contacts, phone settings, and so on.
