I'll try to do better here.I signed up for hosting with DreamHost recently, and their e-mail communications support SSL. Here's the catch - the security certificate that they provide you is valid for mail.dreamhost.com, while you check your e-mail on mail.yourdomain.com. This throws up errors in whatever decent e-mail client you use---------------------------Internet Security Warning---------------------------The server you are connected to is using a security certificatethat could not be verified.The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value. Do you want to continue using this server?Is there any way of redirecting mail.dreamhost.com to mail.yourdomain.com locally? The hosts file doesn't really work, since the IP of mail.yourdomain.com isn't static. Any and all suggestions are welcome (aside from not using SSL).
Shindo_Hikaru Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I had Dreamhost, that is one of their flaws i had, you can check your mail with your host name and all but it is ont SSL (secure) but their host client is but you could not use your client (outlook, TB, etc) through their mail client. You would need to apply for a security certificate to secure your domain.
tain Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 SSL issues like this are a common headache when using virtual hosts. While primarily a server-side issue, a client can attempt to work around this.Next time the warning pops up, 'view' the certificiate and 'install' it. Some wizardry with your hosts file might also be necessary but let's see if this helps first.One thing to note is that while we might be able to get this working for you, it won't help your other email users since the server-side problem still remains. All your users will have to do the same hackery to get it working without warnings.
