when i pu the installation disk in, it only says 'press to boot from the CD'

which i do, then it tries to install the whole OS again.

edit. actually it has let me into recovery mode!

But i have no idea what i do from here...

Is there away to get it to boot into SAFE mode or run last know working configuration?

Yes, it is the Recovery Console, and it lets me log into the C drive via a DOS style window.

there are limited commands there.

Also, i have check all cables, ram etc.

First things first, get access to the recovery console, slect repair XP, repari by console, then logon to your installation, (you will need your ADMIN PASS) then type in chkdsk /f

If that does not do it, prepare for a lenghty battle to fix, normally you will need your emergancy repai disk that you created or ARS (Automatic System Recovery) Disk (usually created at during your install or after). If you think you can do any of the following, your next and final choice is a format and reinstall.

REcommend that you make a ASR and Emergancy Recovery Disk. It will help in the next troubleshooting.

There's no ERD in WinXP, only Win2k.

There's no ASR in WinXP HE, only XP Pro.

Most people don't bother with ASR, but use an image for quick recovery.

ASR saves something to a floppy but you need to run ntbackup first.

You can still try the Use Last Good Config before doing anything else.

EDIT: for typos.

I just completed a fresh install...

Thanks for your help anyway!

How would i use something like Norton Ghost for something like this?

After 16hours of stabel operation, the system has gone back to the same problem!

Maybe i should pull it apart too! (clean out the dust!

Have you used any other programs to make the install disk (nlite, etc), and the cleaning of the case the componets may and may not help.

I found in my experience that

BIOS

Hard Drive

cables

RAM

can cause this alot. I can't say specificlly what your cause, their is other reason and solutions. Recommend appling each members posts.
