did the SP2 thing

got the hotfixes

inserted my drivers for mobo stuff, and sata

forgot what i did in the remove components section

when i run the cd, it comes to the place where it asks me the location i want to install Windows XP, the SATA (bus 0) is never C: even when i deleted C: and created a partition for C: on the SATA it still refuses to install there.

so i went to my MOBO and disabled the IDE that i had my HDs plugged in. then i went on to installing XP on the SATA. now this is where i'm having a problem.... my IDE dvd writers rn't showing up in Windows XP. and when i restart and inable the IDE that i disabled earlier, the other HDs won't show up.

what did break? any ideas?

It's nothing you removed, it's driver and hardware-bios configuration, I'm afraid it would be best first to try without nlite so that we don't put blame where it doesn't belong. You can make bootable iso's with nlite, just select that page, and slipstream service pack too, those operations are safe to not blame nlite if something goes wrong.

Well I'm not being defensive it's just it sounds to me that you have basic issues, not component removal related.

unplug all drives (hard drives and usb pens etc) besides your SATA drive, and start installation again, should sort it out
