Zxian Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 now if you really want to have fun, go and sleeve your psu, it can be a long and tough job but its so worth it.lol, strange labeling on that mobo. its an abit nf7, and its nforce2Sleeving? Do you mean putting mesh around the cables to keep them more organized?Yeah - the mobo's pretty old school. It's the old SocketA platform, but it's done me well for years. I can't really tell from the picture but it seems there are no Fans blowing across your suspended HDDs.I would suggest you have such a fan, as in a normal rigid mount the metal of the case acts as a heatsink for the HDDs and carries heat away from them. In your situation, the HDDs are isolated both mechanically and thermally from the case, so they'll get hotter than in a normal rigid mounting. Hence, the recommended fan.In my old case, all the hard drives were padded by rubber grommets to help with vibration, but they also limited conductive heat transfer away from the drives. If anything, the temperature of the drives has gone down a couple of degrees with this setup, since there's more ambient air around the drives. Having an inch or two between the drives provides more of a benefit than the 1/4" that I had with my hard drive cage in my old case. Even the Maxtor (the one I care about the least) which is at the top of the "stack" has an idle temperature of 33C. I haven't tested load temps yet (haven't had the time yet), but I'm assuming that it would do better here than sandwiched between another hard drive and a floppy drive. I'm gonna be keeping an eye on things though. If temps to get too high, then I'll be off to the store for some more Nexus fans.
