Ive tryed everything i can think of to get or reset the password, nothing works.

its stored in eprom, so takeing out the battery wont work.

its a hp custom version of a phoenix bios.

ive tryed cmospwd, killcmos, and some other tools... does any one here have any idea?

hp wants about 300$ to fix it.

Can't update the BIOS if you don't have the password ... Or in the case of a system such as my Dell or most of the new Lenovo (IBM for you folks who are still behind :P ) laptops, you can turn on the option to flash the BIOS but it still retains the password even after the flash.

You're likely going to have to send it away for $300. On the IBM machines, there's a physical device you must use to reset the password. And I don't mean a simple tool, I mean an electronic card widget that plugs into the board almost like a daughter card... You must yank the mainboard, attach this thing and let it do it's electronic wizardry which will unlock the board.

Dunno if it's like that for the HP's or not...

I updated the bios, i tryed what the guy on the hp forums said...

first, updateing the bios worked, but it didnt remove the password.

the guy on the hp forums is makeing crap up, or something. you cant open the case without takeing off the keyboard, and its f2 to enter setup.

ive read that there is a tool that hp uses to remove it, but ive also read that they have to replace the eprom chip. so i will look on some p2p nets, as you said llxx. and look to see if there is a second battery... wish me luck~ :P

sorry if i seemed kinda sarcastic in my last reply...this is really starting to p*** me off. hp doesnt need to make customer-proof pcs

(yeah, i know its incase its stolen or whatever... but its annoying)

edit- i tryed looking for a hp tool, and for another battery... i cant find anything >_<
