debbles Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I am trying to help a 78 yr old neighbor with her PC, she uses Millennium still. I fixed an error message that was freezing up her PC, but because we had to shut down the PC manually it came up with the Desktop Restore button and the optical mouse is not working because it by passed the start mode. I couldn't figure out how to get to the button using the keypad, finally I hit something that made it go away, but now the screen is all fuzzy looking. Mouse is still not working and can't figure out what do to now. Any advice??Thanks !Debbles
nitroshift Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 please be more specific. is it a usb mouse? after restoring the desktop did you restart in normal mode?
debbles Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 HI,Yes it's a USB mouse, and I started the computer up without going into safe mode, that's when it came up with the desktop restore screen,, I had no way to get to the button because of the mouse not working. I use the key on the keyboard between the windows and Ctrl key on the right side of the keyboard and that seemed to get rid of the desktop restore button, but now I am not sure it really helped. I could use the windows key to get to the start menu and shut the computer down. But it still comes up with the fuzzy background on the screen and the mouse doesn't work. Like I said it works fine in safe mode. Does this help any??Debbles
LLXX Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Turn off active desktop. I doubt she needs it.Try using a USB-PS2 converter on the mouse, Windows automatically supports PS2 mice so it should work.
