TV tuner question

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone tell me where MCE stores on my computer, the tv shows I record? And is it possible to watch them without using media center to do so.

Recorded TV and Buffered TV Sreaming is stored Here by default:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Recorded TV

you can change the store drive in Media Center TV Setting Page.

you can change the store path with TweakMCE Powertoy or Regedit.exe in registry.

TweakMCE is a Microsoft-Official tool to tewak hiden Media Center Options...

To answer your second question, you can use all sorts of tools change the recorded TV format of dvr-ms.

Among them are Nero, Sonic Encoders (Primetime is the best) and my favorite: VideoReDo, which cuts out the commercials automatically.

Using Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition,Professional,or later versions of Windows),you can play dvr-ms file with Windows Media Player....
