hscxpsp1.cab missing

Hi!

I have been testing Hfslip for a couple of weeks. I am working with a PXE based network install without any cd or floppy.

There appears to be some problem with hscxpsp1.cab. It is found on my original XP sp1 UK cd (Volume License). Hfslipped XP install always complains that it cannot copy it during GUI mode setup.

There is an entry for the file in original txtsetup.sif:

hscxpsp1.cab = 100,,,,,,,,3,3

It is located just above htable.xsl. It is missing in HFslip generated txtsetup.sif.

I would be happy if this problem would be fixed.

I attached wu.txt and hfslip.txt.

BTW, I had a similar copying error with classic.wmz until I added WMPClassic=no to hfanswer.ini. I have got the same error with spx.cab, too, but it was a different Hfslip version (60422 I think).

With best regards,

Cristian

Are you sure that your source is ok? I mean, have you created an ISO from the source folder and verify all works ok? Are you sure that this file exists in your source directory? (I read about lots of bad file copies when copying from a cd). Just ask fdv, he ran into that problem for quite some time.

Please try the latest test release and verify that the hscxpsp1.cab line is still in the generated txtsetup.sif.

As far as "WMPClassic" goes... What value did you set it to? If it's "1" (the default), HFSLIP 60510b will only instruct Windows setup to copy over classic.wmz if it exists in the original source. This variable has no effect in version 60517a.

Source should be ok, I created checksums from the i386 in SOURCE folder and on the original cd. They match.

The same problem exists with 60517a: hscxpsp1.cab line is still missing in txtsetup.sif created by HFSlip. However, even if I added the missing line by hand to txtsetup.sif after running HFSlip, the same error occurred at T-19. Weird. Am I modifying a wrong file?

I forgot to mention another persisting problem which I get every time: During text mode copying (Blue screen "Windows XP Professional Setup" after first boot):

Setup cannot copy the file: vbscript.dll

There exists VBSCRIPT.DL_ in SOURCESS\I386.

HFSlip adds the line

vbscript.dll = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0

under section [sourceDiskFiles] in txtsetup.sif. Should it be there or is it a bug in HFSlip? Even though install complains it is missing, the file is found in SYSTEM32 after install.

As I said, I am running the setup from a network share (FreeDOS booted via PXE from network). I think I will create a HFSlip cd to check that the problem with hscxpsp1.cab is not somewhere else than HFSlip.

PS. I guess some of the missing file problems may be neglected if those who test Hfslip have

[setupparams]

skipmissingfiles=yes

in their winnt.sif as suggested (http://www.vorck.com/data/winnt.sif)

PPS. I have not had problems with Classic.wmz when using 60517a.

Because the Classic.wmz handling was taken out. It's in an external file now :)

Let us know how it goes with the CD...

Hmm... It looks like it's HFSLIP after all. But this dates back a very long time... Funny that noone ever came across this problem before.

See test release 60518b :)

I tried with a HFSlipped cd. It works like a charm.

CD install skips one copying phase (DOS-based copy to a temporary directory?). This may be why the bug occurs only on network install.

I will try a new network install with 60518b. Thanks!

Do post back if you have more results. A new final is coming up and I would like to have this fix included.

As far as your "vbscript.dll" problem is concerned...

If HFSLIP is adding an extra line for it in TXTSETUP.SIF then that's not really "wrong", but it might mess up with some types of installations. Symantec LiveState is one example and I already hard-coded some workarounds for it. I'm gonna see if I can stop HFSLIP from adding lines into TXTSETUP.SIF (and DOSNET.INF) that are already present in those files. HFSLIP isn't doing that by definition, though; this case is rather unique.

I just completed my first perfect HFSlip install without any "missing file" problems during install!

HFSLIP_60521_d seems to have fixed problems with vbscript.dll and hscxpsp1.cab.

Thank you for your help and bugfix, Tomcat76!

With best regards :hello: ,

Cristian
