[How-to] Remove downloaded automatic update

Recommended Posts

I had Windows XP on my laptop set to automatically download updates, but not install them. Now I have a couple of downloaded updates which I don't want to install. There's a stupid notification icon in my tray, reminding me to install them. Instead, I'd like to get rid of them. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to do that? I tried a couple of searches regarding this, but couldn't find anything useful.

From memory (and I could be wrong), if you double click on the tray icon, you get the option express or custom installation.

Take the custom option, then untick the updates you don't want.

There is a tick box (or something) which says something along the lines of 'don't ask me to install these updates again'

Make sure that is selected, and those updates will go away.

Okay, that worked. I feel stupid not thinking about just unticking the update to get rid of it. Thanks for your help, much appriciated.
