[Question ] Windows knowledge test - invincible folder?

i'm sure everyone's familiar with this folder on their own machine - because it's there no matter what! apparently it's opened by winlogon.exe and can't be deleted, but the real test here is threefold:

- when is it being opened

- why is it being opened

- how can it be permanently removed

any takers?

yikes never mind, windows file protection contains several subfiles of that folder in sfcfiles.dll (in unicode format, so file searches weren't finding it), and even though the files aren't installed it still keeps a lock on that empty directory. what a waste of time.

Download SFC_OS.dll hac*ed to allow suppress all folders you want in "Program Files" like Xerox too.

edit: mine has regedit tweak integrated ... perhaps you need to change value of SFCDisable ... read section SP2 Hack*d Files ...

What is the Xerox folder for?

It does appear to be something related to "Windows Image Acquisition", which is a common component of Windows.

This directory is being watched by Windows File Protection, because it needs to protect the file xrxflnch.exe should it ever show up. (Why does the directory have to exist in order for Windows File Protection to be able to watch it? I found out that it's a limitation of the Windows File Protection engine. It may have something to do with the fact that the FindFirstChangeNotification function can't watch a directory that doesn't exist.)

How to ged rid of it:

Just do an advanced search under system folders, hidden folders, and sub folders for "sfcfiles.dll". Then highlight each file, one at a time, and hit F2 and change the name to "sfcfilesold.dll". You will get a warning from windows that this is a necesary file but just ignore it. Restart your computer and then you can delete Xerox and nwwia.

WARNING: I haven't tried to remove this folder, so be careful and do this at your own risk...
