Is it possible to use an HFSLIP'ed CD to upgrade/repair a machine? I seem to have problems upgrading.

Setup goes through txtmode fine. When it reaches the first part of guimode, it asks me to insert my "Service Pack 4 CD". If I cancel this message, Setup gives me an error; it tries to find NT5INF.CAT in I386. In the setuperr.log file, Setup also says that the signature for Windows 2000 Professional Upgrade is invalid.

Please note that by 'upgrading' I do not mean that I ran winnt32.exe or launched the install from Windows. I booted the disc and selected 'r' after it detected my Windows 2000 installation. I do not remember having this error with upgrading an XP installation using an HFSLIP'ed disc.

Edits: Attached HFSLIP.LOG. Added note. Removed attachment (04/24/06).

HFSLIP isn't compatible with that. I did notice that an HFSLIPped WinXP disk works "better" in that regard; I did it recently and only WMP10 and about three or four hotfixes needed to be reinstalled. For the CDs to be used in every situation, HFSLIP needs to integrate all file versions within a hotfix and stash them *somewhere* on the CD. Count at least one duplicate per file that's updated with a hotfix...

It looks to me as if Microsoft released a newer version of the Update Rollup for 2K. I installed it using WU on a system yesterday morning, only to have WU install it again later in the afternoon. Today, using an HFSLIP install that I just created, WU once again wants to reinstall the Update Rollup. Could this be a problem on my side or on HFSLIP's part?

It might be a problem on HFSLIP's part. The "return to uncompressed *.CPI/*.CPL files" update in 60423e caused two system files to not get properly updated: wuaucpl.cpl from WUA20 and msmq.cpl from the Rollup. The new test release (60423f) only leaves *.CPL files uncompressed if they are coming from HFEXPERT or HFAAO.
