nikhill779 Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 can i install windows 2000 server on a different hardrive can i still load xp pro with damge my mbr
Crispy Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Yes you can. The Boot-record is saved on your primary HD and just redirects to another HD if the OS is located there ... Windows 2000 and XP even use the same boot-loader, so messing it up is quite hard!
CBay Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Here is a link to further assist you from MS:http://search.microsoft.com/search/info.as...s+xp&view=en-us
nikhill779 Posted July 14, 2003 Author Posted July 14, 2003 thanks, Does this same apply for widows.net server
gamehead200 Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 I don't think so because it is newer than Windows XP...
CBay Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 If not, you can always go the VMWare route:http://www.vmware.com/download/
CBay Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 You should be able to do this ... without too much incident. I would use a boot manager or set up your boot sector manually from FDISK though. Here is another link that may come in handy should you give this a go:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...39-e3f3aa5e5b25Hope this helps you.
Sunil Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 You can install windows.net server on the same machine as windows XP without incident, however with windows 2000 you must install the older os first and then the newer, example if you want to install windows 2000 and xp you need to install windows 2000 first and then you can install windows xp..It seems that for some reason you cannot install windows xp then 2000, because as Crispy said it can mess stuff up...Sunil
