nmX.Memnoch Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I bought a host package with frontpage page extensions but i am still having trouble uploading onto the internet. Are you able to successfully connect to the site with FrontPage? In FrontPage click on File and choose Open Site. Now type in the URL to your site and click on OK. Once you do that you should be able to drag and drop the files from Windows Explorer onto your site in FrontPage. From here on you just connect directly to the site to update pages (as opposed to updating them on your machine and then uploading).I heard that i need windows xp professional to upload onto the internet, is this the case? Not true.
Daemonforce Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Xp Professional/Media Center/TabletPC is needed to install IIS and host from your local network. It's another reason I went to Pro besides the ability to join a domain. Ultimately, it's pointless to do this on a domain because the DC will likely be running a newer and stable version of IIS that your workstation OS will not support. Some of my friends are working on a plan to get IIS to install on XP Home. I think the whole project is stupid since a home OS shouldn't be used as a server in the first place.
nmX.Memnoch Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 You can still connect to a server running FrontPage Server Extensions from an XP Home machine. Connecting to an FPSE enabled server is a function of FrontPage itself, not the OS.Among other things, FPSE allows you to connect directly to the web server to upload/edit files without having to use an FTP client (or even have FTP enabled on the server).
Chris952 Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 cheers for the help guyswhen trying to upload load via http an error message comes up saying:1) Web server may not have the FrontPage server extensions installed. 2) The web-server may be temporarily out of service. 3) If you are connecting through a proxy server the settings may be incorrect 4) An error may have occurred in the web server The host does have FrontPage extensions installed. Any ideas would be appreciated.
