Johnny Walker Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I've attempted to slipstream all current Windows XP fixpacks into Windows XP SP2 Dutch.I've downloaded all fixpack files (WindowsXP-KB873339-x86-NLD.exe etcetera) and placed them in the HF directory as instructed. I've also downloaded the Windows media player 10 and put it into the HFSLIP.Windows XP installs correctly from this CD and everything seems to be working. In the "add/remove programs" applet I see the "hfslip total slipstream" entry. However, Windows re-downloads all fixpacks as soon as I enable automatic updates so it seems I might as well refrain from slipstreaming them at all... Is this normal behaviour?
Tomcat76 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I built a complete Dutch XP CD with HFSLIP two days ago and installed it on a computer but I haven't connected it to the Internet yet. I'll test this in a while...
Super-Magician Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Johnny Walker, please attach your ERROR_REPORT file as outlined in the directions for posting here.Compress it into a ZIP file first.
Tomcat76 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 (edited) Well... KB901190 (Vulnerability in Korean IME) didn't slipstream (which I'll investigate) but for the rest everything's fine on the computer I installed XP SP2 Dutch on two days ago. Your ERROR_REPORT.TXT might help... Edited March 30, 2006 by Tomcat76
Johnny Walker Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 OK, here's the error log!ERROR_REPORT.zip

Tomcat76 Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 (edited) What does Windows Update say?You are missing MSICabExtract.exe in your HFTOOLS folder. It is required for extracting the two MSI files in your HF folder.MSICabExtract.exe is not used by HFSLIP for the msxml.msi and msxml6.msi files since March 1st. I never mentioned that... Johnny Walker Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 When I enable automatic updates, Windows Update downloads a lot of files for half an hour and then installs exactly the same fixpacks (KBxxxx) that I just slipstreamed. It seems unaware of the fact that they're already integrated.
Tomcat76 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 (edited) I don't think HFSLIP handles the DRM update (WindowsMedia-KB891122-x86-NLD.exe) as is. If you wanted the newer MP9/10 codecs, you need to extract wmfdist95.exe from it using an advanced compression program like WinRAR or 7-zip. Other than that I don't see anything out of the ordinary except that you're using an old version of HFSLIP. Try the latest test release (60330a) from the other thread and remove the DRM update (and add wmfdist95.exe into HF if that's what you intended to do). After installation, set up the AU service to only download new hotfixes. If many are downloaded, go to the Windows Update site (or an alternative download site) and see what it says there. Johnny Walker Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 I don't mind using a new HFSLIP version, but I am reluctant to do a new install because of the on-line activation mechanism. After two or three installs XP will not activate anymore, will it?
Tomcat76 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Alright. Could I have the TXTSETUP.SIF and HFSLIPWU.INF from SOURCESS\I386 then? I want to double check that the HFSLPxxx.INF files (which contain additional registry stuff for hotfixes) are processed during installation and that there's nothing in HFSLIPWU.INF that causes it to close inadvertently.
