shooter468 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 How to silently install Mozilla Firefox1. Make sure you have 7-Zip or any other archive manager2. Download the latest Mozilla Firefox3. Right Click the Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1.exe and extract it4. Open config.ini and locate the following: -[Dialog Welcome]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog License]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Setup Type]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Select Components]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Select Install Path]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Windows Integration]; Note - this dialog isn't actually used yet!Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Program Folder]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Additional Options]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Advanced Settings]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Quick Launch]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Start Install]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Downloading]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Installing]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Install Successful]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Download]Show Dialog=TRUE[Dialog Reboot]; Show Dialog values are:; TRUE - Always show; FALSE - Don't show unless at least one component has its reboot show value set; to TRUE. This will not show even if some files were in use and a reboot; is necessary.; AUTO - Don't show unless a component has its reboot show value set to; TRUE or there was at least one file in use and a reboot is; is required for the file to be replaced correctly.Show Dialog=AUTO5. Set all of the values above to FALSE6. Locate the following: -To remove desktop shortcut set this to FALSE otherwise dont change it[Windows Integration-Item0]CheckBoxState=TRUEDescription={WININT_DESKTOP}Archive=To remove startmenu shortcuts set this to FALSE otherwise dont change it[Windows Integration-Item1]CheckBoxState=TRUE Description={WININT_START}Archive=To remove quicklaunch shortcut set this to FALSE otherwise dont change it[Windows Integration-Item2]CheckBoxState=TRUEDescription={WININT_QUICKL}Archive=7. Save the file. And thats it!8. Just run setup.exe and Firefox will install silentlysorry if this was discussed before, but i just found that out and thought i should share...
emorgoch Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks shooter. These are the items that this forum sorely lacks: quick reference pages giving users options about how to customize their installs, rather than pre-packaged solutions that work for one peron with one particular set of options. Please keep up the work.
ajua Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 thanks for the tip of the ini file.also if you want just a normal silent install use this switch -ms
shooter468 Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 thanks for the tip of the ini file.also if you want just a normal silent install use this switch -msthe switch -ms uses default settingsbut if you pay around the ini file you can actually change many of the settings the way you like
GiaPostie Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 You can also download a MSI from http://www.frontmotion.com/Firefox/. You can a MST or a silent installation using the msiexec parameters.
oioldman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 great guide and thanks for information.Probably the easiest way to install FF yet.though i've noticed it works only from local drive and not across lan, or at least in my case.OiOldman
tcsdoc Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 There may be a difference with the latest Firefox but following these instructions still leaves Firefox at the last page asking to 'Launch Firefox Now'. I've now found Silence of the Foxes and it works great. All my settings, themes, extentions are all there.
