Image and Fax viewer removed on WinXP x64

Hello all,

im here just to report a bug: if i remove Image and Fax Viewer from my Windows XP x64 (english) the desktop background doesnt work anymore; NOT ONLY the preview as it's written in nLite, but i cant have a background image on the desktop, it doesnt work at all. I can chose an image, apply it & click on ok, but the image isnt shown in the background. I tried also with XP 32bit and there it works fine, no preview of course, but the background works. So i guess it's a x64 version problem. I cant post the ini coz i've erased it..oops.

Bye and thanks again for this proggy

Yes that is 'normal' when you remove image viewing engine.

I think it's in the description.

Still works for bmp, just not jpg.

Install some image viewer and use it to convert to bmp.

For example in ACDsee right click on image and click Set As Wallpaper.

nuhi, can I get back image view on xp 32-bit? I forgot to keep this.

EDIT: can I just copy shimgvw.dll and register with regsvr32 /i function to get back?

I will try later and post a feedback.

PS: I am counting days to have RC7 on my hands and then, finally, nLite FINAL release.

cheers

  • 1 year later...

thanks for posting this Wine Spirit, hopefully it will be useful for someone else for ive been trying to crack this problem all day

edit that didnt do it, ive searched some other posts semi related but no solution

for example in desktop wallpaper section, i cant select jpg files or if i open a picture there no option to set it as a background pic

also in display prop, in customize desktop option , the web tab is removed

its a x64 bug i believe
