My computer runs great but it seems to boot slower then it use to.Also i like to have my Creative Sound card Sound control panel and the Nvidia control panel running in the task bar but sometimes thay come on at start up and other times thay dont. The other weard thing it when i set in the Nvidia Nview Properites "Make windows minimize and maximize faster" and i would click on the start button and as i went past all the programs in the program list thay would expand veryfast as i passed them but not it does not eventhow i have it set to that. The only way i usto get this featcher and the 2 control panels to run it by reformating and reloading windows witch i realy dont want to do. I scan for viruses and spyware and ad aware atleast once a week or so(as long as i dont forget). Also there are always at lease 40+ things running in Windows Task Manager Processes and im not shure witch ones i can stop from comming on at bootup. I only have 9 things set to run from MSCONFIG.

See Attached Thumbnails of screen shots of the Processes.

Here is my system:

AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ Processor

Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT DDR RAM (2x CMX512-3200C2PT)

Run HiJackThis and post its log. Much easier to read than a screenshot of the task manager.

There is also a program by Microsoft called BootVis that can show the time it takes for various components to initialise during the boot process.

' date='Feb 25 2006, 08:35 PM' post='470671']I thought HiJackThis was for viruses? I dont think i have any.
Not just for viruses, it shows everything that gets loaded on startup so you can find and remove unnecessary startup items.

What happens if you boot without a network card plugged in?

Also, if you download autoruns (from www.sysinternals.com) and disable all non-Microsoft items, does the slow boot problem persist?

Slow boot problems are actually caused by drivers not coming online fast enough, or services either not responding to Service Control Manager requests in a timely fashion or dependancy issues (where one service others are depending on starts up very slowly, causing the rest to start slowly).

This may be a little biased, but looking at the list of services, many of them are from Symantec. Norton/Symantec antivirus is a huge resource hog. In the many computers I've seen this on, all are slow on booting and regular use. I don't run an anitvirus myself, but if you check out this thread, you can find a lot of advice and alternatives.

This is just my 2 cents. Your boot time may also be affected by driver loading and/or other programs starting during boot.

You took the words out of my mouth! lol My first thought was "Norton". If you insist on Symantec stuff, at least use the corporate client. It seems to be very light on its feet and doesn't cause so many problems.

Here's a hint if you really want to speed things up: Use Hibernate. Really, it works great and you'll be up and working in 30 seconds. Try it out. It just copies your RAM contents to a file and replaces it on startup instead of loading all the drivers from scratch. I use it here on my Server 2003 which normally takes a few minutes to start from scratch because of 'the large number of services I have on it.

I'd agree that Norton/Symantec can be brutal loading on startup.

There are alos some programs starting that you don't really need started until you need them.
