tal ormanda Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 When I turn my computer on the windows update appears in the bottom right. But as soon as connect to the internet it disappears. Why can't I update?
CptMurphy Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Is it turned on? Right-click My Computer and goto the Automatic Updates tab. Make sure it's on the recommended setting.
KAndle Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 (edited) Some computers need a manual Windows update to get the BITS update and the Windows Installer update to properly receive Automatic updates. Happens in Windows 2000 alot but an old XP install has similar problems. There are somethings that aren't actually updates that are installed on launch using the manual way. (like Windows validation) Plus download any hardware driver updates while you are there because those aren't automatic either. Microsoft Update is even better. It downloads all sorts of updates for you. Might as well upgrade to that while you are in there. Edited February 25, 2006 by KAndle
tal ormanda Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 (edited) I just got it to downloading. It got to 20% then it disappeared. Edited February 25, 2006 by tal ormanda
nmX.Memnoch Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Have you tried going directly to the Microsoft Update site? If you require the BITS and Windows Installer updates KAndle mentioned you can only get them by going directly to the Microsoft Update site (or downloading them from MS Downloads...MS Update is quicker/easier).
CptMurphy Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 You may need to clean the downloaded cache. Go to the microsoft website and search for "clear updates" or something.
