VascoMan Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Ive recently reinstalled winxp_sp2 pro.C: contains the usual stuff, and I have another partition D: that i created from within xp.they are both ntfs and im the lone user of this machine.from here:rightclickmycomp/manage/diskmanagementi select d: and "change drive letter and path".then ADD, "mount in the following empty ntfs folder"next i create a new folder called c:\home, and mount it there.the problem im having, is if i browse to c:\home, i cannot delete any folders in there.if i browse instead to d:\ any folder deletes just fine.My next step id like to remove the path to d:How can i configure xp to allow me to delete folders from c:\home ?
CptMurphy Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 You can't because C: has to exist in the system, it's where the MBR is.
noonereallycares Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 How can i configure xp to allow me to delete folders from c:\home ?Are you logged in as an administrator? Is it possible that you have configured C:\Home to "read only" for general users? You can't because C: has to exist in the system, it's where the MBR is.I don't see how deleting a non-system folder from the C:\ has any impact on the MBR.
VascoMan Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 (edited) To clarify, i have winxp installed onto c: like normald: is just an extra partition for files.Administrator and Guest are the only users on the system, with guest by default still OFF.to create the folder named c:\home, as admin i simply rightclick newfolder on c: Edited February 3, 2006 by VascoMan
noonereallycares Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Try this:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q205524
ChunkDog Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I believe changing your drive to a Dynamic Disk will give you this functionality also, but you might want to research into it further before making that decision to upgrade a disk to a Dynamic one, because it is not reversible.
VascoMan Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 thank you very much for the repies. i was googling your suggestions and came across this:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=243514&sd=RMVP
dougiefresh Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 (edited) You can't because C: has to exist in the system, it's where the MBR is.I don't see how deleting a non-system folder from the C:\ has any impact on the MBR.It won't have any effect on the Master Boot Record (MBR). The MBR is stored at sector 0 of the hard drive (think: sector 0, cylinder 0, head 1). Partitions start beyond cylinder/head where MBR is stored at (about 64 sectors later). And, besides, this isn't even a system folder we're talking about here! Edited February 4, 2006 by dougiefresh
CptMurphy Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Yea, just re-read the post. I tought he meant installing the OS on another partition other than C:
