gpbuz1 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 trying to do a system recovery on a compaq machine! the system keeps restarting and going through boot, but then switches back to startup again. I tried restore, then the system says i need WinXp home CD because a file is corrupted or missing(\Windows\system32\config\system). Can i extract this from another source, to a floppy and then install it? or ? where might i find this file? anyone have a suggestion? GP
suryad Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I am assuming you are making sure that the cd is what the computer is booting from?
gpbuz1 Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 It asks for cD TOO BE INSERTED, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE CD! Need another source for the file? any suggestions?
LLXX Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Actually this might be caused by a failing hard disk...What is the exact filename?
gpbuz1 Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006 file name is: \Windows\system32\config\SYSTEM I borrowed a WINXP disc today, and tried to do a repair, but when i got to the C:/WINDOWS> i typied the command line and it told me bad command!?I might not have used the correct switch?Any suggestions?
