A friend of mine attends Eastern New Mexico and uses the campus internet access. He cannot download via bittorrent as he would like to. He can't even direct connect to me using a chat client. What can he do in order to regain those services? If more info is needed let me know and I'll ask him.

To attempt to circumvent the campus network would probably be futile. If you were to somehow find a way, all you would succeed in doing is getting him into trouble as the campus policy no doubt forbids P2P.

Are there no blocks or something to use in order to accomplish this task in the safest manner possible?

change the default ports maybe? may work for IM's too, i dunno.

DC++ has a funny little option in it; 'send garbage on incoming/outgoing connections to avoid ISP bandwidth throttling'. whatever 'garbage' it's sending may also foil campus security.

i happen to like the PeerWeb version of DC++ myself.

what may also help is PeerGuardian 2.

just be aware, as mentioned previously, that your buddy will be taking a risk.

I made myself clear last time but obviously you don't want to hear it. Trying to circumvent the security that is rightfully placed on his network is stupid and will get him into trouble. I don't care how good you think you are with computers, his network admins are better.

I never once spoke about me being good with computers nor did I ask if it was a stupid thing to do. You replied with no help to my concerns. Thank you anyways.

Anyhow I've got more info now; apparently the school will allow him access to the blocked services but only after 10pm. They must turn off the firewall or whatever...if that's it then wouldn't some point forwarding tricks work?
