It's a pleasant surprise that Microsoft, who I thought were fixated on XP, released a new update for 98 and ME, which I felt sure they weren't ever going to touch again. For once in a lifetime, I have to congratulate Microsoft on this

I think it's understand that Microsoft HAS abaondoned 98, except when there's a critical flaw that can't detrimentally affect system performance....

As per their "lifecycle" policy, MS will still release strictly critical security patches for 98 SE + ME until June 30 2006:
