Is there a tool available whice will do the same as modifype with gui instead of commandline? How about a tool for repacking icons?

reshack may be the appropriate tool here.

Reshack can do that to, -

just instead of in the resource-map (icon) or (bitmap) go and replace it in icongroups, - (most win binairies have such a folder... if you replace it there all sizes of a single icon are replaced instantly.

I want to upgrade windows 2000 icons with different ones. This will save a lot of time instead of doing 1 at a time to do groups. Are there 1 file or 2 which should be modified?

Hey Dirt..

You might want to try asking XPero (creator of XPize) for suggestions on how he does it, since I know he uses a simuliar method in his XPize packs.
