kitsch_me Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I recently installed windows 98 revolutions pack 4 from http://tihiy.ahanix.org/, but after that I couldn't use windows anymore. As soon as windows is loaded, windows shuts down on its own. My computer is a Pentium 3, 1 GHz, running WindowsME.Initially I tried to do a system restore, but the restore points would not start. Then I thought maybe I installed a virus but luckily i found this forum.Obviously I don't know how packs work. Thought I could simply install/uninstall it. I also did stupid cos the hardware test said my comp does not support 32-bit icons (i haven't upgraded my video card), and yet I went ahead and installed the revolution pack. Please help! How do I keep windows up and running with the revolution pack, if possible? If that's not possible, then how do I restore windows to its original state, without format or reinstall?
Tihiy Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Kill yourself please, because this pack works only on Windows 98 SE and not supported more.
kitsch_me Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 Okie... not the kind of reply I expected. Especially from the creator... Ok so I realize this is all a big mistake.... this pack works only on Windows 98 SE and not supported more.In the install package, it mentions that all I have to make sure is to have a valid licensed copy of windows 98se or windows ME, among other things. So yeah, I shouldn't have taken the risk of testing this on windows ME.
Tihiy Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 windows 98se or windows MEit clearly says windows 98se AND windows ME. please learn to read first.
kitsch_me Posted December 31, 2005 Author Posted December 31, 2005 (edited) oK... i made a stupid mistake. I'm tearing my hair out! Any chance you could tell this poor soul how to bring back her windows? Like could you tell me which files were modified by the pack? And which files could be removed safely? Any help would be greatly appreciated... THanks. Edited December 31, 2005 by kitsch_me
LLXX Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Reinstall it over your current installation. That should overwrite the modified files.
Tihiy Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 You should restore KERNEL32.DLL first. If it is not in \windows\revbckup, you should restore it from CD. Start your computer with win/dos boot cd; wait for command prompt; insert Windows ME cd, type <your drive>: ; type cd Win9x; type "extract win_8.cab kernel32.dll /l c:\windows\system /a"
