ok we all know that it is called "windows vista" but y? and no one give me that cleer, confident, connected crap (or as i call it.. the 4 c's) anyway heres y i think they called it "windows vista". Because vista blinds go on windows , what are your thoughts?

I think the name Vista sounds cheesy and gay. I'm suprised that Microsoft picked out such a stupid name for the next operating system.

I think Longhorn sounded better.

Or even "Windows 2006"...

I agree with you there. They should have kept the name "Longhorn". I think calling it 2006 sounds a bit too commerical though. But 2006 sounds better than "Vista" though. I bet all the anti-Microsoft people would be laughing already.

Thats only becuase it doesn't have a name yet - thats still the codename!!

As for Vista - I suppose it's something you can grow to use. It doesn't bother me too much now.

And I agree with the 4 C's and that - the Dec CTP is really coming along.

You'll never have a real answer to "why it's called Vista" because the name was made up by marketing people, not the technical people.

Personally I just prefer the normal naming scheme. Microsoft uses an internal name (because at first they don't know how long it will take to finish a product). Then eventually it's named after the year it comes out.

As far as I'm concerned I'm not waiting for Longhorn or Vista, I'm waiting for Windows 2006 (or 2007).

And for those who hate the whole year thing, here's why it's better. While you may know exactly when WinME, Word 6.0 and WinXP came out, does your mother? I'd rather have a year stuck on a product so that way the average PC user knows their Word 1999 is very out of date. Where as somebody using Word 6.0 won't realize it's very very old (which can be a bad thing, arguably).
