WAN stands for Wide Area Network, but I doubt that's what you mean. Could you be a little more specific in what information you're looking for, and where you found WAN in the OS? Is it a service, an application, etc?

accually i was just curiest what that is used for too?

would you say that i have 2 pc's and 1 server a Wide Area Network?

2 pcs and a server would constitute a LAN (Local Area Network) for to be considered a WAN, usually it involves leased lines (DSL, Cable, T1, DS3) That connect area offices. Say a office in new york and one in Chicago, connecting the 2 with a lease line and running network services across that line and now you have a WAN

If you're using Windows 2003 for home use, then most likely you don't need the service. posted by Aegis
