I think (but don't know 100% for sure), that you can't remove SP2 from this type of installation.

One question to ask though, what type of problems are you having? Perhaps some of the members of this forum can help. B)

At first I was very hesitant of SP2, as I know M$ will usually release products before sufficient testing is done (and allow the public to test bugs for them), and given the large size of the service pack and the total amount of changes it made to the OS, I was esspecially weary--let's face it, XP SP2 is almost a new OS compared to SP1 and even more so when compared to XP Gold. And although I wouldn't have made this comment a year and a half ago, in my opinion XP w/ SP and all current updates is best OS M$ has released to date.

You can repair windows with SP1 disc but you will lose services of SP2 and the logon will be slow ... (because it loads inexistant services ...) after you delete services from registry ... but it's a poor method ... The best solution is to keep SP2, what problem with it ?

the only way id concider helping somewone with whas to fix incompatebilitiy issues. (the reason i wouldn't even start testing on disintergrating SP2 - is because

1 it isn't safe (and i dont want to get to be 'the one who never told us about the risks on this matter')

2 i think its a wast of time, because, its virtualy un-doable (as far as i know)

3 its just way easier to fix the bugs he has with sp2 - than to fix those hell get after disintergrating it).

hmm ok, well guess i'm doind a re-install....

the problem is not one thing but random occurences of windows just freaking out, for example , the internet ramdomly going down, different version of antivirus programs just decide to stop working, profiles deleting and recreating themselves. i've done 2 full clean installs with no fix in sight, and i've had weird similar issues before with sp2 , so the easiest fix at the moment other than pulling the hdd is to remove sp2., unless other people have some suggestions?

thx

Well, I still recomend installing SP2, mainly for the reasons everyone mentioned above. I am using SP2 (on several machines), and have never experienced such problems. Perhaps your restore disk is bad(?). The best way I have found to install SP2 is by using an install disk with SP2 already integrated, so you may want to check some of the links and forums here at MSFN for instructions on how to do that if you have an XP disk previous to SP2, or just google "slipstream XP SP2". But this is just a recommendation.
