There is a delay in accessing the directories and files(windows XP). When I select “My Computer” to view the hard drives and directories, there is a delay and the flashlight comes on and swings from left to right during this delay. After few minutes the names of drives are displayed. Does anyone knows why this delay? This delay happens every time when I try to access hard drive.

do you have any network drives in my computer?

if so disconnect them and try it again

Cd's and DVD's are usually the culprit here.

Removing the media from optical drives should solve this problem.

Are your drives really full? How many hard drives do you have? Do you have the latest drivers for your mobo?
